What are the entry requirements for the full-time course?

Preference will be given to students who have attained NCEA Level 1 (Yr 11 NZ or Yr 10 Australia) and who have reached a level in classical ballet equivalent to RAD Advanced 1 (IDTA Advanced level 1, BBO Advanced 1, Cecchetti Advanced 1, BAL Intermediate). Students are required to have good conversational English to study at the School. Students who have a level of English lower than B1 of the CEFR must undertake an English language course before arriving at the School. How to Apply

Do I need to understand English to study at the School?

All classes are taught in English and students need to understand conversational English to study at the School. International students must undertake an English language course before arriving at the School if their level of English is lower than B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): Students “Can Understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected texts on topics, which are familiar, or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

How do I apply?

Admission to the New Zealand School of Dance is by audition only. Application forms for the full-time course will be available from the How To Apply page once applications open mid-year. When will we find out the results of the audition?

Applicants will be notified by the end of November. You will be contacted by post and also by email with the result.
