Oct 2011

Sharni Spencer, who graduated from the New Zealand School of Dance in 2007, now dances with The Australian Ballet.

"Just sending a quick message to say hello and to share some good news with you. We have just finished our yearly appraisal meetings. I came out of mine particularly happy, and a little dazed with a Coryphée contract to sign for next year!  I'm looking forward to starting the new year feeling positive and motivated. It will be a big year, being the 50th Anniversary, with a lot of touring all over Australia and an exciting trip to New York. We have already started working on Stephen Baynes' new Swan Lake. I can't wait! I have loved dancing some of Stephen's work and will be able to add a third Swan Lake to my repertoire.

After we finish off the season in Sydney this year, I'm heading to Adelaide briefly with Calvin Hannaford to perform The Nutcracker with The Adelaide Classical Youth Ballet. It will be a great opportunity to rehearse and perform a challenging role. Was chatting with Ingrid last week and we were saying how great our school experiences were. Being able to learn some amazing repertoire and work with great tutors and guest teachers.

I applied for a scholarship that is offered to all staff and dancers at The Australian Ballet to enhance professional development. So will be heading to Europe for three weeks over my christmas break to visit many different companies, taking class and seeing as many shows as I can cram into the three weeks.

Sharni xo"
