Full Time Auditions Update

All of us at NZSD have been hopeful that the full-time auditions could go ahead as planned in Auckland. Regrettably we are no longer able to make the trip to Auckland for live auditions as the Level 3 lockdown in Auckland, Northland and parts of the Waikato continues.

Therefore we will be accepting digital auditions from applicants in these regions and look forward to receiving these as early as possible (31 October at the latest).   This applies to those interested in our full-time programme and anyone wanting to join our Associates. Comprehensive Digital Audition Guidelines have been prepared.  Please click on the button to view and download them.

Scholars & Associates Programme Auditions

The health and well-being of all our students, supporters and staff remain at the forefront of our planning.  After careful consideration, we have decided to postpone auditions for our Scholars and Associate Programmes. 

The postponement is to allow applicants the opportunity to spend as much time as possible in studio to prepare themselves before audition day.

Scholars Auditions: 30 October 2021, Wellington. Times to be confirmed

Associate Auditions:

  • 30 October – Wellington
  • 31 October – Auckland
  • 7 November – Christchurch
  • Times for all auditions to be confirmed

New Zealand School of Dance Choreographic Season is an Experience Not To Be Missed

The annual New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD) Choreographic Season has been a highly anticipated addition to the capital city’s arts calendar for decades. This year’s season, Meraki, showcases the talent and accomplished artistry of the New Zealand School of Dance students as emerging artists. 

Known for their innovative technical approach, the students present a compilation of short works connected by a common thematic thread – the creation of art imbued with something of the creator’s essence…something of the creator’s self.

Meraki | {verb} Greek. [may-rah-kee]:To do something with soul, creativity or love. To put something of yourself into your work.

Working under the mentorship of NZSD contemporary dance tutor Holly Newsome, who herself is a graduate of the School and the Creative Director of dance company Discotheque, the contemporary dance students collaborate to piece their own short works together into a longer dance performance for audiences to enjoy.

Expect to see a diverse range of themes explored through movement, with a consistent thematic shift from work to work.  Performances are nothing short of inquisitive, fascinating, exciting and beautiful.

The 2021 season is to be performed at BATS! Theatre – one of Wellington’s iconic performance venues.  It’s the first time in over 20 years that the season is to be performed outside of Te Whaea: National Dance and Drama Centre in Newtown.

Summer Intensive 2021

Thank-you to all the talented and enthusiastic participants of the School’s inaugural Summer Intensive. We thoroughly enjoyed starting the new school year with you!
