Open Technique Classes

The NZSD offers open technique classes in classical ballet and contemporary dance in conjunction Associate programme auditions.  Dancers are welcome to join the open classes, whether they are attending the Associates auditions or not. COVID UPDATE

COVID UPDATE

The New Zealand School of Dance building, Te Whaea, remains closed at Level 3.  All our face-to-face teaching has been moved to an e-learning environment.  Fulltime students and those in the Scholars Programme are receiving online class content appropriate to their individual needs.  Our tutors are working diligently to provide new content as well as introducing live technique classes and lectures in several allied subjects. NZSD students present an hour of short works, in the studio where they train, providing an intimate first-hand experience of the School and its dancers. These performances offer an opportunity to see repertoire the students have been working on this term. Performances on 6 & 7 July at 6.15pm. NEW ZEALAND SCHOOL OF DANCE RECEIVES TAONGA

Sir Tīmoti Karetū, New Zealand’s first Māori Language Commissioner and a respected exponent of the spoken and performing arts, has gifted the New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD) the phrase ‘Kia kōrero te katoa o te tinana’. Sir Tīmoti’s words, translated by Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori, the Māori Language Commission, as 'Let the body do all of the talking', embodies the philosophy of the School and recognises its commitment to honouring Te Ao Māori as a central tenet in educating young dancers.
