25 April - 3:00 pm3:30 pm UTC+12

You are invited to join us this Saturday for a free ONLINE broadcast of Five Variations on a Theme – a short but thrilling stand-alone work by David Fernandez.

Saturday 25 April at 3pm

The work was originally created for New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Joaquin De Luz and is set to Bach’s Violin Concerto in G minor. It premiered as part of the celebrated “Kings of the Dance” world tour and was performed to acclaim in New York City, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Rome, Qatar, Moscow, Kiev, and Odessa.

Critics reviews:

“…What a wonderful choice of choreography to showcase Soriano’s strengths. He is a lovely, compactly elegant classical dancer with great presence and gorgeous artistry. His clarity of movement is exemplary, showing razor-sharp positions, clean and clear batterie and wonderful ballon and turns. A very poised performance.”
– Susan Bendall, Dance Australia

“There was one solo item on the programme, and what a solo! …It needs both killer technique and quiet confidence and these Soriano had in spades. Leaping through space whizzing like a top, then pausing to smile, he gave it his all in a brilliant showing.”
– Maggie Foyer, Dancing Times – Britain’s Leading Dance Monthly

World premiere: 25 November 2008, Odessa Opera House, Ukraine
NZSD first performance: 20 November 2019, Te Whaea Theatre, Wellington, NZ

This work was funded, in part, by a grant from the US Embassy New Zealand
