External Board Member

The New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD) is a charitable education trust established in 1966 to support the education and development of dance and choreography. It is the Official School for the Royal New Zealand Ballet, and offers NZQA registered diplomas (at levels 6 and 7). The School is located at Te Whaea on Hutchison Road, Newtown, Wellington. The NZSD Board is seeking applications for two external Board Members.

An External Board Member must be a person who is willing and able to add value to the New Zealand School of Dance through their skills and background. This may include governance, strategic planning, fundraising and marketing, sales or other relevant not-for-profit experience. At least one of these positions must be taken by someone with knowledge of or involvement in the New Zealand dance sector, and we are also particularly interested in applicants who reside outside Wellington. While Board members are not remunerated, travel expenses associated with attending Board meetings (up to 4 per year) will be reimbursed.

External Board members may also be asked to take responsibility for representing the Board in other groups (such as the Audit and Risk Committee, the NZSD Board Representative on the Te Whaea Trust Board, the NZSD Foundation, and the Professional Advisory Panel).

The New Zealand School of Dance has recovered from the disruption of COVID, with the return of international students over the past couple of years, and is currently in the process of expanding the number of studios it operates in the Te Whaea complex. The School is fortunate to have a group of dedicated and hard-working staff, and is looking to ensure a smooth transition as staff retirements are likely to arise over the next few years.
